Top Execs Worry About Talented Workforce

"Attracting, developing and retaining a talented workforce" is the number-one issue keeping their CEOs awake at night, according to respondents of a new survey by THINQ Learning Solutions, Inc.

Those CEOs, together with other top executives (COOs and presidents), are most likely the chief sponsors of their company's e-learning initiatives, according to the survey. Meanwhile, 89 percent of respondents said e-learning is considered "mission critical" to their organization.

The survey drew responses from 255 e-learning professionals attending the e-learning 2002 Conference & Expo last month in Washington, D.C. The results suggest companies are increasingly viewing e-learning as a requirement for recruiting top employees, a powerful tool for improving their performance, and an effective method of ensuring their longevity on the job.

"Our survey demonstrates how strategic e-learning has become in business today, the degree to which senior executives have bought into it, and the fact there's been a dramatic change in perception," said THINQ President Ray Maskell. "E-learning is clearly associated with a talented workforce, and is no longer just a tactical function on the periphery of the enterprise."

Other conclusions drawn from the survey, conducted in conjunction with e-learning Magazine:

- Respondents felt that "changes in the competition" and the "performance and productivity of their knowledge workers" were also top-of-mind CEO worries.

- 46 percent of the respondents who said top-level executives sponsor their corporate learning initiatives also said it was supported by rank and file employees or end users.

THINQ will continue to collect data and publish findings to further educate e-learning buyers and the industry. For detailed information on the results of this survey go to: http://www.thinq.com/pages/survey.htm
