Christian & Timbers study reveals:
People hire for experience fire for human qualities

A survey of 601 executives from Fortune 1000 and leading companies reveals that 55 percent perceive that they base their decisions on facts and figures, while 45 percent perceive that they rely on their intuition. Christian & Timbers, a top global retained executive search firm, conducted the survey from May 15-31, 2002, asking the question, "As a manager running a business or department, do you rely more on facts and figures or intuition?"

According to Jeffrey Christian, chairman and CEO of the firm, "This study is more revealing than you think. People hire for experience and end up firing for human qualities such as honesty, integrity, energy, intensity and leadership. The results show that over the half the people, if they rely more on facts, have a chance of making a mistake when it comes to executive level hiring. If you have left-brain, number-crunching managers hiring engineers, accountants, scientists and technological people without considering their soft skills and ability to relate to the corporate culture, the cost is tremendous and you may need help with the hiring process. It is crucial for managers to let intuition and fact-finding equally guide the hiring process," concludes Christian.
