Sixty-Six Percent of H.R. Professionals in Corporate America

In Demand for Flexible Work Schedules in the Last 12 Mont
In a recent poll of H.R. professionals by DBM, a global workplace
consultant, sixty-six percent of those surveyed indicated
they had seen a rise in the request for flexible work schedules
during the last twelve months. The top three reasons stated
were:
1.
General work/life balance issues
(76 percent ranked as primary reason)
2.
Working mothers looking to spend more time with their children
(13 percent ranked as second reason)
3. The September 11th effect (8 percent ranked as third reason)
"Clearly, U.S. workers are clamoring for more balance in their lives, said Tom Silveri, President of DBM. "Companies that are able to provide more flexible work arrangements will have an easier time attracting the best talent as we move into a period of potential labor shortages with baby boomers starting to leave the workforce."

The poll of 139 H.R. professionals was conducted at the SHRM conference in Philadelphia during June 23 to 25. Approximately one in two (49%) respondents represented firms with more than 1,000 employees.
