Manpower Inc. enhances benefits for all employees
Manpower Inc., the Glendale staffing company that employs
more than 500,000 U.S. workers a year, said it has enhanced
the benefits it offers all its employees, even temporary workers.
At a time of rising benefit costs and when the staffing industry is struggling with the worldwide economic slowdown, Manpower has decided to add to the fringes available to workers, figuring the payoff will come from increased employee loyalty when the economy heats up again.
"We do feel that what goes around comes around," said Margaret Gerstenkorn, a spokeswoman for the company.
Among the enhancements offered:
-- A larger selection of physicians, with more than a dozen new physician networks in its medical plan.
-- Greater coverage of prescription drugs, including coverage of contraceptives.
-- More career development opportunities, with educational credits available through Manpower's Internet-based learning center.
Manpower has been offering its temporary workers the same benefits available to permanent employees since the mid-1980s. Benefits include medical, dental and life insurance, a 401(k) savings plan and a stock purchase plan.
"A positive work experience is such an important component in a person's life," Barbara Beck, executive vice president of Manpower's North American operations, said in a statement. "That's why we will continue to look for ways to enhance our benefits plan to support the overall health and well-being of our employees."
