Chromos announces executive appointments

Chromos Molecular Systems
Inc. announced the appointments of Dr. Phillip B.
Maples as Vice President, Clinical Development and Manufacturing, Dr. Alan Hardwick as Vice President, Process Development and Kathryn Hayashi as Vice
President, Finance. "These appointments are an important step in the growth of Chromos from a platform to a product development company," said Alistair Duncan, President and CEO of Chromos. "Dr. Maples and Dr. Hardwick bring a depth of experience and technical expertise in development of cell therapy products, further
strengthening the Company's position in the cell therapy field. As members of the Executive Management Team, their industry experience will be a great asset and will enhance the Company's ability to move quickly into a clinical program and progress toward commercialization of products." On July 28, 2004 Chromos announced that it had completed its acquisition of CellExSys Inc. ("CellExSys"), a cell therapy company focused on developing immune-based cell therapies for infectious disease and cancers. Dr. Maples has over 18 years experience in biotechnology and healthcare, primarily in engineered cell and gene therapies. Prior to joining Chromos, Dr. Maples was Vice President of Technical Operations for CellExSys. Before CellExSys, Dr. Maples served as Scientific Director and Head of the Molecular/Cell Processing Center in Dallas, Texas, a part of US Oncology, Inc., where he processed stem cell transplants and developed and manufactured vaccines for clinical trials. Prior to that, Dr. Maples was at Baxter
Healthcare Corp., where he developed and tested cell processing systems for gene and cell therapies. He has also designed and made operational cell processing facilities, co-developed an ISO-compliant quality system and created products for closed systems cell processing. Dr. Maples earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and performed his post-doctoral training at the
University of Chicago. Dr. Hardwick brings more than 21 years of experience developing cell selection and expansion processes to Chromos. Prior to joining Chromos, Dr. Hardwick served as Vice President of Process Development for CellExSys. Before CellExSys, Dr Hardwick served as the Director of Cell Processing at Xcyte
Therapies Inc. in Seattle. Prior to Xcyte, Dr Hardwick worked for Baxter Healthcare Corporation and Nexell Therapeutics, companies that developed and
marketed cell selection and expansion systems for use in ex vivo cell therapy. Dr Hardwick obtained a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and
completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the American Red Cross in Bethesda, MD. Kathryn Hayashi joined Chromos in September 2003 as Director of Finance,
bringing more than 10 years of management and corporate finance experience. Prior to Chromos, she was General Manager at The Nettwerk Group, a group of
international entertainment companies headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Ms. Hayashi is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British
Columbia and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree from the University of British Columbia. In her new position, Ms. Hayashi will be responsible for
overseeing the Company's financial operations and investor relations. On April 28, 2004 Chromos announced that Tom Mamic had been appointed President and CEO of Agrisoma Biosciences Inc. ("Agrisoma"), a Chromos
spin-out focused on plant applications of Chromos' ACE System. With Ms. Hayashi's appointment, Tom Mamic will step down as Chromos' VP Finance and Chief Financial Officer in order to devote his full attention to Agrisoma.
"Ms. Hayashi's promotion further solidifies the Company's management team," said Mr. Duncan. "Her broad experience and perspective will provide a solid support for Chromos going forward. Together these appointments
strengthen our management team and position Chromos to become a leader in the cell therapy field."
