App Icons Downloading Into Smart Phone Research from Potential Park  tells us that over 57 percent of job seekers want to search for jobs and engage with recruiters and hiring managers using a smartphone. Yet, the 2012/2013 HR Systems survey by CedarCrestone suggests that only 16 percent of recruiters and 11 percent of hiring managers are using mobile apps for recruitment. This means there is quite a significant gap between the candidate market and the way the recruiting process engages with candidates. Today’s recruiting process needs to be mobile enabled; and, therefore, recruiters should be able to run their practices or functions from a smartphone if need be. And below, I have set out six critical apps to help you to do this.

1. LinkedIn Mobile App

As the report above shows, less than 1 in 5  recruiters are using mobile apps for recruiting. With LinkedIn giving you access to nearly 200 million professional resumes from all over the worldand being available on five mobile platformsit is the go to app for mobile recruiters.

2. Look-up by Talent Bin

This is the mobile version of Talent Bin’s peopletargeted search engine, which aggregates publicly available data from Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, Google Plus and more into a single, user friendly social media resume. Only available for iphone at the moment, but seems like a must have app for mobile recruiters.

3. Evernote Hello

This is an excellent aide memoire type app, which means that when a recruiter meets a candidate (on site, off-site or on the go) they can use the app and smartphone to: take a photo of the candidate, take notes, record the location and store the entire encounter in an easily retrievable format. Available in for iphone, Android and an essential memory augmentation app for the busy, mobile recruiter.

4. CardMunch

This is a great business card reader Iphone app, which will streamline the busy recruiter’s networking and candidate interactions. It does this by enabling the recruiter to scan the contact’s/candidate’s business card, which will automatically be inserted as a contact in the recruiter’s phone  and then cross referenced with the LinkedIn database so you can see LinkedIn profile data for the contact and their relevant connections. Another must have networking tool for recruiters, if you can use it.

5. Highlight

This has been termed the recruiter’s “wet dream” in unofficial circles. If someone is standing near you, who also has highlight, their profile will appear on your phone. It will show the person’s photo, mutual contacts and any professional data he/she may have chosen to share. It’s like a radar for top talent, so no matter where you arethat is, a networking event, on the train, or on the busif top talent using Highlight is in your vicinity, you will know about it. It’s available on iphone and Android too.

6. Hire Vue

This is a great mobile interviewing app that enables you to send candidates a set of questions from your smartphone ,while on the go. Candidates can easily video record their responses and send them back to you from their smartphones for you to view at your own convenience. This is just available on iPhone, but is a great way for busy mobile recruiters to easily engage in flexible, video-based, first-round interviewing.

Good luck with your with hiring on the go.
