CodeEval HiringOn June 9th, 2011, Techcrunch reported on the launch of CodeEval : “Just in time for the impending Silicon Valley talent apocalypse, CodeEval, a platform that uses coding challenges to help recruiters find and filter the best programming candidates for the job, is launching today to the public.”

CodeEval offers an interesting take on sourcing great talent. Instead of posting regular job descriptions, employers and recruiters instead post complex challenges which candidates attempt to solve. The site focuses on hiring technical talent and gives support to technical recruiters looking to pre-screen for technical competency. The new start-up offers an interesting hybrid model of job board and assessment software.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to think of the puzzlers yourself. The site offers pre-made coding challenge templates. Additionally, it screens for code “plagarism” (copying other people’s answers from the web).

The start-up job board recently cited its first hire made using the unique candidate sourcing methodology. The post references the graphic to the right, which depicts the interview funnel. At least for this hire, CodeEval generated a highly focused recruitment channel. A seven candidate pipeline to one hire is quite unheard of – it will be interesting to see how the metrics hold up over time.
