ASA members operate more than 14,000 offices throughout the United States and in virtually every industrialized country in the world. ASA has 69 affiliated state and local chapters.

About: Richard Wahlquist

As President and CEO, Richard brings more than 20 years of staffing industry experience to the American Staffing Association and is looked upon as one of the industry's top leaders and most effective spokespersons. As the result of ASA's advocacy, the United States staffing industry continues to operate in a more open and less regulated legal environment than anywhere in the world.

Government officials, academics, economists and the media view the association as one of the most important and credible sources for information about staffing industry issues, statistics, and trends. ASA is also the leader in providing education, information and member services to staffing industry professionals. In 2003, the association will roll out its new professional certification program as an enhancement to its current Employment Law Accreditation Course (ELAC).
For the nine years prior to his appointment as the association's chief staff executive in 1997, Richard served as ASA's Vice President, Administration and Government Affairs. In addition to being deputy CEO, he helped direct legislative and regulatory activities affecting the staffing industry at both the state and federal level, and was in charge of Chapter Relations for the 69 ASA Chapters throughout the United States. During his tenure at ASA, the association's revenues have more than tripled.
From 1980 until 1989, Richard directed the Government Affairs Department of Kelly Services at their corporate headquarters in Troy, Michigan. During that time, he developed legislative and regulatory monitoring systems for the staffing industry, coordinated industry lobbying efforts and testified on behalf of the industry at the Federal level and in 35 states, Puerto Rico and Canada
Richard is a frequently interviewed spokesperson on industry issues and trends by major networks and news outlets. Staffing associations throughout the United States and Canada have recognized Richard's contributions to the industry. He is a sought after speaker before staffing groups and national business associations and has been a featured lecturer at the international meetings of staffing industry leaders in Europe, South America, and Japan.
