About Susan R. Meisinger:

Susan R. Meisinger, SPHR, is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Society for Human Resource Management, the world's largest human resource management association. Meisinger serves on the Boards of Directors for both SHRM and the Society's affiliate, the SHRM Foundation, which is the research and development arm of the profession. In addition, she serves on the Board of the SHRM Global Forum, a division of SHRM.

Meisinger, who became President and CEO in March of 2002, previously held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of SHRM since 1999. She also served as Senior Vice President from 1997-1999 and as Vice President of Government and Public Affairs from 1987-1997.

Prior to joining the Society, Meisinger served as Deputy Under Secretary for the Employment Standards Administration (ESA) in the U.S. Department of Labor. As head of the largest agency within the Department of Labor, Meisinger was responsible for the administration of more than 90 Federal laws and regulatory initiatives affecting workers' compensation, minimum wage and overtime, and non-discrimination and affirmative action obligations of federal contractors.

Meisinger also served as special legal counsel for the Associated Builders and Contractors in Washington, D.C. In this role, she provided advice to contractors on their wage and hour and nondiscrimination and affirmative action obligations.

Currently, Meisinger is a member of the board of directors for the Ethics Resource Center, a nonprofit devoted to fostering ethical practices in individuals and organizations. She also serves on the board of Women's Policy, Inc., a nonprofit organization that follows congressional action affecting women and families.

Acting on behalf of SHRM, Meisinger takes an active role to help shape public policy. She was one of thirteen members appointed by the President to serve on his 21st Century Workforce Council, under the direction of the Department of Labor, and was a member of the presidential transition team in 2000.

Meisinger frequently serves as an expert on workplace and business issues in the national media and has appeared on CNN, CNNfn and NBC Nightly News. She has also appeared in stories in the New York Times, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, among other national publications.

Meisinger received a bachelor's degree from Mary Washington College and a law degree from the National Law Center of George Washington University. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and has earned certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resource Certification Institute, an SHRM affiliate.
