The
New Stretch for HR
Last Spring, the University of Michigan, the Global Consulting
Alliance and the Society for Human Resource Management released
new objectives that push the HR professional to strive toward
a new level -far beyond the business partner level- to that
of a business leader. It is probably one of the most profound
directives in the HR profession in the last eight years.

Regan McBain Traub
"What
that signals to me," says Regan McBain Traub, "is
that HR is going to have to be more connected to the external
customer. They're going to have to educate staff about how
to do business in a different way or how to behave in a different
way that will both attract and retain customers more effectively.
This is a completely new focus for HR who has been traditionally
focused on internal processes and employees. It's also about
working more actively with the leadership team in helping
them understand why their making decisions, what the decision
criteria is, what's their process and really giving some feedback
to the leadership team. The vast majority of HR professionals
are no where near this level. We're only seeing this in the
most high performance companies."
