Job losses perplex consumers
Consumers' short-term expectations for the economy improved a bit in August, but they felt worse about current conditions because of lingering concerns about unemployment, a monthly survey said. "When people aren't more optimistic about the job outlook, they're less optimistic" overall, said chief economist Richard Hoey of The Bank of New York Mellon.
