The ADP Small Business Report is produced by ADP, a leading global provider of Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions, in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Total small business employment: 78,000 (39,000 for employers with both 1-19 employees and 20-49)
  • By sector for 1-19 employees: Goods producing at 9,000 jobs and service providing at 30,000 jobs.
  • By sector for 20-49: Goods producing at 3,000 jobs and service providing at 37,000 jobs.

The ADP Small Business Reportis a monthly estimate of private nonfarm employment among companies in the U.S. with 1-49 employees and is a subset of the ADP National Employment Report.  The data for this report is collected for pay periods that can be interpolated to include the week of the 12th of each month, and processed with statistical methodologies similar to those used by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to compute employment from its monthly survey of establishments.  This subset is modified to make it indicative of national employment levels.
