Testing employees for marijuana use was once a typical practice among employers, but it has grown less and less commonplace over the last several years. This decline makes sense in light of the current legal landscape in the US: 10 states have legalized recreational marijuana, and 33 have legalized medical marijuana.

Of course, companies reserve the right to test employees for marijuana use, and many still do.

Recently, MarijuanaDoctors.com  surveyed 1,000 Americans to learn more about how people view marijuana use and drug testing when it comes to the workplace. The results reveal a significant generational gap in the perception of marijuana use. For example, 46 percent of employees over the age of 30 said they would lose confidence in their coworkers for using marijuana, even in states where recreational use has been legalized.
