people in bubble Beyond.com, The Career Network focused on helping people grow and succeed professionally, recently announced results from a comprehensive national survey of unemployed Americans detailing  their 2013 job search experiences and confidence levels of obtaining a job this year.

The survey, which received more than 2,300 responses from unemployed persons in various industries, found that even though nearly 80 percent of respondents had applied to jobs multiple times a week in 2013, less than 15 percent were able to secure more than five interviews for the year. Even more so, 33 percent of those polled said they did not secure any interviews in 2013. And although landing interviews proved difficult, 52 percent of job seekers said they applied to more than 20 jobs last year, while 87 percent said they planned to apply more frequently in 2014.

Despite opposition during the job hunt in 2013, a whopping 89 percent of the unemployed reported that they are confident about finding a job in 2014, and another 36 percent said they are confident they will find the right job

Other key findings from the survey include:

  • Millennials were the least likely to be granted interviews, with 45 percent saying they didn’t land interviews in 2013
  • 55 percent of survey respondents said they plan to network with friends and colleagues more frequently in 2014
  • Although confidence levels pertaining to landing a job have increased, 65 percent of those polled believe the process will be harder in 2014
  • The data also showed that the longer an individual had been on the job hunt, the more likely he or she is to believe it will be harder to land a job, i.e. 76 percent of those who had been looking for over a year believe it will be more difficult to find steady employment in 2014
