world CareerBuilder just released its first annual job forecast for the 10 largest world economies, and Brazil and India boast the greatest confidence with more than two-thirds of employers in these markets planning to add full-time, permanent headcount in 2013.  Italy came in as the least optimistic economy with more employers who expect to decrease staff than those who expect to hire.

“The job outlook presents varying degrees of growth and deceleration as governments and businesses strive to rebuild and expand and deal with large deficits,” Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder, said.  “Hiring activity in the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) is projected to be significantly higher than other markets while recruitment in Europe remains sluggish as leaders struggle to resolve a debt crisis that has global implications. The overall hiring picture is improving, but companies will remain watchful as they navigate headwinds and maneuver through somewhat precarious economic terrain.”

The job forecast was created from the results of a survey of more than 6,000 hiring managers in countries with the largest gross domestic product. According to the forecast, more than 60 percent of employers in the U.S. and BRIC countries reported that their company’s financial position is stronger compared to this time last year.

The number of employers who are in a better financial position than one year ago include:

  • India – 81%
  • Brazil – 80%
  • China – 67%
  • Russia – 63%
  • U.S. – 62%
  • U.K. – 50%
  • Germany – 45%
  • France – 38%
  • Japan – 34%
  • Italy – 25%

This year, Brazil, India, Russia, China and the U.S. made the top five countries that plan to hire full-time, permanent jobs. Companies with the lowest hiring expectations included Italy, France and Japan.

The also survey showed that, across top markets, employers are most likely to hire for positions that are closely tied to revenue and innovation. In the U.S., employers reported that the top areas their organizations will be hiring for are sales, information technology and customer service.
