facebook Many companies who are looking to save money on their recruitment generally use their own social media accounts to spread the word. The most common platforms used in this instance include Twitter, Facebook and most predominantly, LinkedIn.

The owners over at Facebook are very savvy to this and have taken the opportunity to launch their own Job Board which was aired in the US on the 14th of November 2012. The board was developed subsequent to a partnership between the U.S. Department of Labour, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Direct Employers Association, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) and Facebook themselves in an apparent effort to alleviate the rates of unemployment in the U.S.

The app already hosts a gargantuan 1.9 million jobs and counting. The world of recruitment is an easy win for Facebook as their constant attempt to monopolize every aspect of social media now sees them dipping into waters previously occupied exclusively by contending platform LinkedIn.

The future of this app is unclear but bigger brands could stand to save hugely by bypassing recruitment agencies and going straight to a ‘free’ service such as the one being currently offered by Facebook.

On the other hand, Facebook has been known to start charging for many things when it comes to brands and have been criticised recently for the value of their paid services such as promoted statuses. How long before big brands will be charged to use their jobs board too?

It seems that perhaps Facebook should stick to what it does best and that is allowing friends and family to communicate and share in a personal way and leave recruitment to companies like Online Resourcing, who not only can give brands better value for their money, but have the experience and expertise to seed opportunities to the relevant communities on and offline.

Oliver Adderley, Managing Director at Online Resourcing shares his view on the subject:

“The key to online recruitment is balance. Although social is important, it is vital that it is combined with the right media! Employers need to understand the job board and social market place before making a decision”.
