blue expanding arrowsIndustry coalition ID Federation has introduced a software tool for accessing multiple insurance websites with a single sign-on. Dubbed SignOn Once, the tool allows staff to use a single login to access multiple carrier business partners for quoting, submission, and account management, among other transactions. Using token technology to authenticate each user, the new tool provides greater security than using a variety of passwords. SignOn Once reduces the time necessary for managing passwords while enhancing the security of connections.

In order to participate in SignOn Once, insurance carriers and solutions providers need only join ID Federation, complete certification, and implement SignOn Once. The ID Federation provides a trust framework outlining operating agreements for business, legal, and technical rules for the use of SignOn Once. SignOn Once provides each user a unique identify token based on distinct credentials.

“Technology offers tremendous advantages to all parties in an insurance transaction,” explained Teresa Addy, business technology analyst at EMC Insurance Companies and a leader in the development of SignOn Once. “But requirements such as signing on to individual websites of various carriers and recalling numerous passwords have worked against agency efficiency.

“SignOn Once can change all of that and boost efficiency at the same time,” stated Addy. “With SignOn Once, our goal is to allow insurance professionals to spend more time with the value-added work of serving prospects and clients and less time working on managing passwords.”
