Simply Hired Reports Shows Growth in Job Openings in September

September sees growth in job openings Simply Hired has released its October 2014 U.S. Employment Outlook report, which finds that nationwide job openings grew 1.18 percent month-over-month in September 2014. This follows nationwide increases of 4.52 percent and 1.74 percent for August 2014 and July 2014, respectively.

“The Simply Hired Employment Outlook report shows ongoing robust growth in the U.S. employment market,” said James Beriker, President and CEO of Simply Hired. “Across the nation, job openings grew 1.18% in September 2014. Most industries and occupations enjoyed growth, with construction posting the largest gains for the second month in a row.”

Key findings from the monthly Simply Hired Employment Outlook report include:

  • Job openings increased in 23 of the 25 largest U.S. metros in September 2014. The largest month to month gains were found in St. Louis (+5.66 percent) and Chicago (+4.50 percent).
  • Fifteen out of 18 industries experienced month-over-month growth in job openings. Construction led all industries for the second consecutive with an 11.96 percent increase. A majority of occupation categories (41 out of 54) also experienced growth in job openings in September 2014. Law enforcement officer roles (18.85 percent) experienced the largest rise.
  • Healthcare continues as industry with greatest job inventory.Nearly one-half of the top posting companies in September 2014 were healthcare-related. There were also a significant number of job openings at financial services and academic institutions.
