white jobs word The newly released April 2014 Employment Outlook report from Simply Hired shows that job openings increased 5.1 percent over-the-month in March 2014 and were up 27.5 percent over-the-year. Openings were also up in February, albeit at the lower rate of 4.6 percent month-over-month.

“There continue to be exciting, new possibilities for job seekers who want to take the next big step in their careers,” said James Beriker, CEO of Simply Hired. “Based on our data, the opportunities continue to grow for job seekers who are motivated and inspired to seize the job they really want.”

In March, job openings rose in 12 out of 18 industries, especially in government (25.2 percent) and real estate (8.4 percent). The industries experiencing the largest declines were healthcare (-9.9 percent) and hospitality (-8.6 percent). Occupationally, 21 out of 23 categories experienced increased job openings in March. The largest amounts of month-over-month growth were found in journalism and media workers (46 percent) and manufacturing workers (19.4 percent). The largest decline was experienced by doctors, nurses, therapists, and technicians (-3.1 percent).
