BeachOddly enough, the foosball table has become the symbol of what we might call the “employee perks movement.” Spearheaded in large part by tech companies — both established giants like Google and the nimble startups following in its wake have placed heavy emphasis on perks in recent years — the movement seeks to solve the employee engagement crisis by giving workers everything from on-campus gyms to free housecleaning services.

And while employee perks can have real benefits — they help companies attract and retain top talent, thereby boosting the bottom line and keeping productivity levels high — not all perks are created equal. Consider, for example, that humble foosball table: according to a new infographic for Towergate Insurance, created by the folks at Builtvisible, foosball tables “are all well and good, but they don’t help people engage.”

So, what perks do employees want? And what perks will truly aid employers in building and  maintaining strong workforces? Check out the full infographic from Builtvisible below:

[Just a quick note: Builtvisible and Towergate are U.K.-based companies, so the infographic largely deals with data collected from employers and employees in the U.K. and the European Union. That being said, in our globalized economy, organizations often employ workers from around the world, and even those that don’t can learn a thing or two by studying business practices in other countries.]
