flipping magazine pagesThomasNet.com, publisher of the leading online manufacturing and industry news and trends publication and e-newsletter Industry Market Trends (IMT) just launched IMT Career Journal, a web publication and weekly e-newsletter designed to educate employers on creative ways to attract and train new talent. The company said that the new journal is also “a resource for job seekers interested in learning more about today’s manufacturing professions, and how to find the jobs of their dreams.”

IMT Career Journalis the newest addition to ThomasNet.com IMT online publications and e-newsletters, including IMT, IMT Machining Journal, and IMT Fluid Gas Flow Journal. The addition was inspired by the company’s Industry Market Barometer® research, which showed that although U.S. manufacturers are hiring, jobs requiring specific skills are not being filled.

“We believe that the root cause is an outdated perception of manufacturing jobs, which pay well and are intellectually challenging. IMT Career Journal shows manufacturers how to spread the word and attract new talent. It also opens the eyes of prospective employees to the rewards of a manufacturing career,” Managing Editor William Ng said.

An important focus of the new journal is on using education as a solution to fill the gaps in skilled labor, manufacturing and engineering.

Some of the journal’s features include:

  • Articles that highlight companies, trade schools, colleges and local organizations that are taking innovative approaches to training, mentoring and STEM education
  • Direction for individuals looking for manufacturing jobs, including veterans seeking to re-enter the workforce
  • Advice from career coaches, and information on “a day in the life” of people with interesting jobs, such as sustainability and virtual reality managers
  • Information on more than 610,000 manufacturers, distributors, and service providers, and over 100 million parts.
