Glassdoor Mobile Job Search Infographic-sectionRaise your hand if you couldn’t go one day without your phone. I imagine the majority of people who read this will raise their hands (or at least think about it). Why? Because, let’s face it, most people cannot function without their mobile devices. We use our phones and tablets for just about everything: alarm clocks, timers, calendars, directions, shopping, searching the web, watching videos and even doing work. And now, more and more people are using their devices for one more important thing—to search for a job.

According to Glassdoor’s latest infographic, The Rise of Mobile Job Search: Mobile Job Seeker Behavior Today and Expectations for the Future,” three in five job seekers used their mobile devices to search for jobs in the last year. An astounding 84 percent of job seekers and employees believe searching for jobs via mobile means will be the norm in the next five years.

The infographic jobs data comes from a survey of more than 1,000 job seekers and employees. A few key findings of the survey include:

  • Mobile job seekers want more than just job listings on their device: Although 60 percent are likely to search for jobs on their mobile device, 54 percent read company reviews from employees and 52 percent research information about salary.
  •  Non-mobile optimized career sites are deterring candidates: One in four job seekers are put off from applying if a company’s career site is not mobile-optimized.
  • Employees look for jobs on their mobile devices:  Among the employees who said they planned to look for a new job in the next 12 months, a whopping 89 percent said their mobile device is an important tool and resource for their job search. This means your worker may not be just checking his/her email on his/her mobile device while on the clock.
  • Mobile devices are welcomed during the interview process:One in five respondents believed it was okay to check your mobile device during an in-person interview when the interviewer is not in the room.
