Cardiology is important but most important to have strong leadership skills w evidence of managing multiple depts in a complex environment

Nice to haves: would like cath lab experience if at all possible or peri-op

Must haves: strong leadership experience and evidence of creating positive relationships with staff and wide range of physician specialties and personalities

 

 Experience managing multiple different physician relationships both employed and independent groups; managing within a regional and large complex national health care company



We are a regional multi-campus health care system serving West Michigan and the lakeshore with five hospital campuses, more than 60 physician offices, more than 1,300 medical staff physicians, more than 800 hospital beds and 7,200 colleagues, and hospice, home health and long-term care service offerings. We employ more than 500 physicians and advanced practice professionals in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland and the lakeshore.

Directs and coordinates functions in defined clinical service area(s) to ensure quality clinical care in accordance with our mission, vision, goals and objectives.  Directs the systems and processes for delivering care for defined patient populations within clinical service, including the operation of inpatient units associated with the assigned clinical services. Evaluates the effectiveness of care to patients and enhances services to meet the needs of the community.  Ensures the clinical service operates within budget and in accordance with performance standards.  Maintains responsibility and accountability for quality care in a cost-effective manner, compatible with recommendations from accrediting agencies. Full complement of management responsibilities including; short and long-term planning and development, human resource management, managing and developing physician relationships, financial accountability, quality assessment and improvement, regulatory compliance, productivity management, operational excellence and assuring consistency with the organizational and health system strategic plans.  This position holds responsibility for using a collaborative approach to setting strategic direction, development of new services, service line growth, and marketing of assigned clinical services.

§  Develops, implements and administers the service line strategic business and financial plans in accordance with organizational strategic plan, integrating them into the daily program operations.  Documents, communicates and revises plans annually to act as a guide for the entire service line.  Helps others establish proper goals, objectives and priorities that have meaning and significance to the overall mission and strategic plan of the Organization.

§  Creates regional service business growth by utilizing marketing creativity.  Identifies and evaluates all possible sources of patients.  Together with physician partners, cultivates sources of referrals.  Oversees design and promotion of patient responsive services.

§  Responsible for the overall management of the department’s daily operations to achieve quality improvement, fiscal, productivity and patient satisfaction goals and objectives.  Ensures that care is provided through individual attention and holistic care, while meeting each patient and family's specific needs that promote the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of the patient.

§  Develops and implements systems to ensure the quality, efficient, cost-effective operations which support and achieve goals and objectives of the clinical service lines assigned.  Works in partnership with key stakeholders, including members of the medical staff, to achieve desired clinical, financial, and people outcomes for patients and staff.  In collaboration with Medical Directors, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, identifies changes needed within department and implements, manages and evaluates the change process.

§  Ensures the delivery of patient care occurs in a safe, clean, well-equipped environment.  Seeks to incorporate the use of new technologies and methods to improve clinical outcomes, productivity and organizational effectiveness.  Challenges current processes to identify more cost-effective methods. 

§  Monitors customer satisfaction, staff engagement, and service utilization and initiates short-term corrective actions as needed. Ensures that patients, their families, visitors, customers, and employees are treated with kindness and respect.  Ensures that work-performed supports our brand for ‘something more’.  Ensures outstanding customer service within the department through the consistent application of our Core Values and service standards by all team members.

§  In collaboration with other Clinical Service Leaders defines and guides nursing practice, including policies and procedures, nursing competencies and credentialing.  Ensures that nursing practice standards are consistent in all areas in which nursing care is delivered and are research based. 

§  Establishes policies, procedures and protocols necessary to accomplish daily tasks, processes and long-range goals consistent with standards established by  JCAHO, CMS, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.   Ensures that the assigned Clinical Service policies, programs, and plans are consistent with and support our core values and mission.

§  Participates in ongoing quality monitoring, policy review, and process improvement activities related to assigned Clinical Services.  Creates the expectation that managers and staff participate in research and continuous improvement activities. Uses data from a variety of sources to support decision-making.

§  Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.  Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with our policies, procedures, and organization philosophy.  Provides leadership and mentoring for other nursing leaders within the organization for professional development and growth.  Administers department personnel management programs to include, but not limited to the following: payroll, education, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientating, supervising, counseling, disciplining, and evaluating appropriate nursing, technical and office personnel.

§  Engages in continuous study of the assigned Clinical Services, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. 

§  Functions as a change agent by appropriately challenging current processes, policies and procedures. Seeks to incorporate new technologies and methods to improve overall effectiveness. Exemplifies a strong, positive attitude during times of crisis or uncertainty.

§  Develops short and long-term plans for the department(s) in collaboration with the Medical Directors and key physician partners, and assumes overall responsibility for the service lines’ performance including the preparation, administration, and monitoring of capital and operating budgets; plans for future capital purchases and the development of pro-formas for new services; analyzes variances and develops appropriate corrective action plans; ensures that the service line profitability is in line with strategic and financial plans.

§  Oversees the recruitment, selection, and employment of a highly effective workforce requiring minimal supervision and committed to the attainment of organizational goals and objectives. Builds teams with complementary strengths and champions their ideas.  Participates in the selection of a top-notch medical staff; ensuring alignment of physician commitments.

§  Collaborates with other leadership to ensure fair, honest and ethical conduct in all dealings. Exemplifies the organization’s commitment to its communities. Demonstrates teamwork. Demonstrates a passion for excellence in all assigned areas.

§  Models personal and professional growth by continuing education and obtaining certification in an area of specialization.

§  Actively participates in shared governance model for nursing and activities in support of Magnet designation.

Advises Vice-President and other executives on matters pertaining to clinical services.
