Job Description

This is the advanced journey-level class in the Plant Operator / System series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned, including performing supervisory activities and participating in developing goals and procedures for water and wastewater treatment activities.

The following duties fall under the Plant/System Operator III responsibilities:

  • Performing routine laboratory test.

  • Surface water treatment plant experience preferred.

  • Applying advanced protocols and laboratory safety techniques.

  • Supervising and training staff.

  • Preparing bacteriological media and chemical solutions.

  • Communicating clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.

  • Perform routine physical, chemical and bacteriological tests.

  • Audit lab processes.

  • Use and calibration of laboratory equipment.

  • Follow as well as provide oral and written instructions.

  • Prepare reports and may perform other assigned clerical duties.

  • Lift moderately heavy objects weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the client.

In addition to the above, applicant must have the ability to:

  • Audit timesheets and enter information into a computer system.

  • Assign tasks and special projects to lower level plant operations staff.

  • Lead and train lower level plant operations staff.

Minimum License Required:

Class A  Water/Wastewater Certification
