Glassdoor Best Places to Work section Glassdoor’s list of best companies to work for in 2014 has ranked two social media firms and a business consultancy at the top of the heap based on employee reviews. Bain & Co., Twitter, and LinkedIn were found to offer challenging work, opportunities to work with top industry talent, and the chance to change the world. That said, surprisingly, compensation wasn’t the primary driving factor behind nominees for the 2014 Employees’ Choice Awards.

“Interesting, impactful work: There is rarely a boring day, much less a boring project. The problems we’re solving are usually what’s written in the WSJ about our client – big, complicated challenges, often challenges that are leading issues for that entire industry,” wrote one Bain employee in a review of the company on Glassdoor.

Ratings  for the best places to work were based on reviews from U.S.-based employees with overall rankings determined by quantity, quality, and consistency of reviews. Employees rated how satisfied they were with their company overall, how they felt their CEO was leading the company, and workplace attributes such as career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture/values, senior management, and work-life balance. Employees were also asked whether or not they would recommend their employer to a friend and their perception of their company’s business outlook over the next six months.
