biThe open-source Jaspersoft business intelligence (BI ) suite now gives users more control over report and dashboard formatting, access to data filters, and the ability to remove unneeded columns. Since the software is most widely used for these functions the recent update was focused on simplifying these capabilities and improving self-service functionality. Jaspersoft 4.7 also arrives with built-in MongoDB data store connectivity giving data store access without the need for an extract, transform, and load tool.

“Ultimately, we want to get casual BI users more self-sufficient with their data,” said Mike Boyarski, director of Jaspersoft product marketing. “This capability is great for IT people who want to get out of the business of writing reports again and again.”Many of these new data engines are not SQL based, so it is hard for traditional tools to connect with them.”

Version 4.7 adds support for Android mobile clients which can be used for downloading and viewing reports while exposing the application programming interface (API) allowing developers to connect their own Android apps to Jaspersoft.

The basic version of Jaspersoft is available for free under a GPL public license with a paid version offering commercial support and a larger feature set. The paid version starts at $10,000 for a single CPU with unlimited users.
