More technology starstups than ever are focusing on integration and compatibility with major web services. The recruiting software field is no different – instead of building only native functionality, many new companies are building platforms which leverage the power of social networking and search engines.

Click to Cloud is a recruitment software company that is a good example of such integration. Their “People Cloud” recruiting software is actually built upon the SalesForce platform. Building industry specific and recruitment functionality on top of the existing SaaS based CRM systems like SalesForce gives companies a wealth of development talent, as well as sales functionality.

This week, Click To Cloud introduced the Google Search Appliance into their platform. By using Google search inside of their application, recruiters can search for candidates with a familiar interface which pulls in data from both resume content and candidate database information.

Shawn Stilwell, Managing Director of Click To Cloud, said “People Cloud simply puts recruiters ahead of the crowd.  We’re providing the recruiter with a single source to manage their business instead of multiple disconnected systems – and we’re delivering it all in the cloud.

“Typically recruiters have traditionally been required to maintain separate databases of applicants, Resume/CV’s, Clients and Vacancies and end up having to manually log onto job boards or job board / candidate tracking technology to search for outcomes” says Stilwell. “This becomes a slow and inefficient process.  The People Cloud solution resides on the Salesforce.com platform and provides embedded Google search power, links to Amazon Web Services, LinkedIn and Australian job boards.”

Because recruitment and sourcing relies on extracting and indexing data from both your own native candidate database as well as popular web search tools and social networks, more recruiting software companies are developing such functionality. Recruiters are using consumer technologies like Linkedin and Google regularly for their work, so there is greater demand for integrating these tools into recruiting software and applicant tracking systems.

Recruiting professionals interested in purchasing new recruiting software systems should consider how they and their team use consumer technologies and then how the various software companies tap into and compliment their workflow. As popular web services continue to develop and open up their APIs (as Linkedin did recently), there will continue to be further integration of consumer technology with recruiting software. Optimally, your recruiting software should mirror the workflow and preferences of your recruiters – if they use Google search and Linkedin often, it will be important to have those tools embedded in your recruitment software system.
