office-survival-guide sectionWith an estimated 1,606,000 new graduates now searching and applying for job opportunities in the UK, and with employment levels on the rise once again, we can expect offices everywhere to inherit a couple of eager-eyed additions to their teams fairly soon.

That first day at any new job can be daunting, but it doesn’t need to be a stressful experience. Preparation is key, and Office furniture supplier ChairOffice aims to help new hires with this preparation and onboarding process with its new infographic, “The Office Newbie’s Survival Guide: Surviving Day One.”

The infographic begins with what new hires will need, which includes things like a notebook, lunch, USB stick and cash for the vending machine.

Then it goes on to break down a newbie’s day by every few hours. For example:

  • 6:30am—The infographic advises new hires to wake up early, eat a good breakfast and check the weather reports.
  • 10:30am—The first day will bring a ton of new faces with new names. If you forget one, the infographic suggests making a joke out of it saying, “Sorry if I forgot your name, I’ve met a hundred people today.”
  • 1:00pm—Although it will be the first day, the infographic notes that newbies shouldn’t be surprised to receive a task. After all, new hires were hired to work.
  • 3:00pm—If your first day includes a meeting, the infographic suggests using the restroom and grabbing a drink beforehand as you won’t know how long the meeting will take. And don’t forget to take notes!

And as the infographic wraps up a new hire’s day, it concludes with a few top tips to remember:

  • The “reply all” email feature can ruin your life;
  • Restart your computer before declaring it is broken; and
  • Don’t bring tuna or egg salad for lunch.
