Report Argues How Social Media, Big Data are Pushing Recruiters Out

flipping magazine According to a report released by The Conference Board, social recruiting has become the recruitment option of choice for human capital and talent management professionals, especially as talent remains in short supply. In the study, “A Brave New World: Recruiting Talent in a Digital Age,” executives from 11 multinational corporations, including Campbell Soup Company, Cisco Systems, and Deloitte, discuss their own analysis and first-hand experience. Based on these discussions, the report recommends several approaches to successfully using social media to recruit candidates.

Outlines of the recommendations from the report include:

• Recruiting activities will become more interconnected with PR strategies as online candidate engagement increases. Job seekers continue to rely increasingly on social connections over traditional venues making powerful branding and identity ever more important.

• Gamification will continue to propagate and become more popular as the tool to keep younger employees and stakeholders involved and engaged with organizations.

• Big Data-led “workforce science” will rise to discover methods for aggregating data from platforms, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, and transforming it into actionable insights.

• The role of traditional recruiters will evolve to resemble that of a brand ambassador and analytics specialist as opposed to the current role that resembles a salesperson.

• Recruiter responsibilities will be divided into two components: one focused on sourcing, understanding the competitive landscape, and talent mining and the other focused on talent acquisition, hiring managers, vendors, and getting the most out of HR business partners.

The report also includes a set of informational videos providing viewers with suggested practices from talent acquisition professionals.
