JobOn, a provider of web and video job matching technology, has recently unveiled an innovative new recruitment platform that allows job seekers to apply for jobs using pre-recorded video interviews. The solution made its first public appearance at DEMO FALL 2011, the highly regarded conference series for identifying cutting edge technologies.

Jody Presti, their CEO, an ex-Dice employee, has big plans for the product. “Traditional job searching and hiring is backwards because the interview is the most important part of the process,” said Jody Presti in a recent press release. “Employers know within a few seconds if someone is a good fit, so we put the interview first. This prevents employers from wasting time on paper applications in which all applicants look the same, and on inappropriate interviews.”

The platform is currently targeted towards job seekers and employers in retail, restaurants and grocery stores. JobOn combines the search and listing functionality of a leading job board with the unique usability and efficiency of video interview technology. The resulting platform is a new twist on an old classic. Job applicants simply locate a position and submit a video job application response answering the interview questions the employer has selected. Candidates can even use their smartphone to record and submit their video job application on-the-go. For employers, JobOn streamlines the recruitment process – reducing the time spent on finding the right fit, lowering turnover and decreasing overall hiring costs.

“With unemployment rates topping nine percent, jobs are top of mind for everyone,” said Matt Marshall, DEMO Executive Producer. “Companies with a product that can help people to find local jobs more quickly are well positioned, and JobOn certainly fits the criteria as it aims to upend the job-search process.”

Is applying to jobs with video ahead of the curve or simply too far ahead of its time? The market will decide, but it is an interesting new development to watch.
