people togetherCareerBliss’ third annual 50 Happiest Companies in America Awards has identified the 50 companies “dedicated to cultivating happy work environments.” Through analyzing over 100,000 independent company reviews, CareerBliss ranked the happiest company in America as Pfizer, Inc. with an overall “BlissScore” of 4.248 out of 5. The remainder of the top 10 list include, in descending order: NASA, U.S. Department of Defense, KBR, Cisco Systems, Motorola, Avaya, General Electric, Qualcomm, and Cognizant. Notably, the list shows a shift in happiness at companies like Apple that took big dives in the rankings over previous years.

“Being able to be truly happy at work is one of the keys to being happy in life,” says Heidi Golledge, CEO and co-founder of CareerBliss. “CareerBliss recognizes companies that excel at providing happy work environments since it is a vital part of the CareerBliss mission to foster rich and rewarding work cultures for everyone. We see the way employees work has a great impact on their overall happiness. Unlike previous years, where companies like Google and Apple reigned in the top 10 and top 20, engineering, pharmaceutical and government ranked supreme in employee happiness.”

The report is hailed as indicating new shifts in how employees and employers value happiness and that happy work environments can persist from year-to-year, as evidenced by the presence of companies like Qualcomm, Department of Defense, and Pfizer on earlier awards lists.

“It is important to note that companies that saw a change in their workforce, even amongst layoffs or shifts in programming, still ranked high for overall employee happiness. Many companies on the CareerBliss Happiest Awards continue to rank high year after year,” Golledge says.
