Glassdoor_RecruitSoftware Engineers infographic section Software engineers are some of the toughest jobs to fill. At least that’s what a new infographic from jobs and career community site Glassdoor, “How to Recruit Software Engineers,” says.

So to help employers understand how to better recruit this talent, Glassdoor surveyed more than 1,400 software engineers to gather insights on how soon software engineers plan to look for a new job, the best recruitment tactics, what would cause them to leave their current job and insights into who they trust most when making a career decision.

According to the infographic, 25 percent of software engineers plan to look for a job within three months, while 15 percent plan to look within the next six months. And surprisingly, 38 percent of software engineers who have been with their current employers 8-10 years are most likely to leave their job in the next three months.

The new data also shows recruiters the most effective recruitment tactics. A whopping 71 percent of software engineers hear about job opportunities from online job sites, 70 percent hear about them from recruiters, 37 percent from former co-workers, and 34 percent from social media.

Along with recruitment strategies, the infographic offers insight into retention challenges and the top reasons software engineers would leave their jobs. More than three-quarters (78%) would leave because of salary and compensation, 76 percent because of career growth opportunities and 58 percent for the type of work. And recruiters should note that money isn’t everything as 52 percent of software engineers are likely to accept less money to work at a company with a great culture.

And probably some of the most important information from the infographic reveals who software engineers trust when making job decisions. The data showed that 76 percent of engineers trust their friends, 68 percent trust former colleagues, and 64 percent trust current work colleagues. Also, 97 percent of software engineers  read online reviews about a company before accepting a job offer.
