November 4, 2013 Survey Finds Employees Want More Recognition, Higher Compensation

pie chartThe first installment of’s mid-year Workforce Talent Survey’s has found that most employed professionals are proud of their company and its future. Over two-thirds of respondents reported feeling inspired to do their best work with similar numbers stating that they feel proud to work for their organization. However, most employed workers are still looking to “find better.”

Almost all respondents (98 percent) are motivated by their employers’ ability to use their skills and abilities effectively. Additionally, 97 percent think that salary, work satisfaction, and recognition are most highly valued in the workplace. Survey results also found that many employers are failing to meet these needs:

• 48 percent of employed workers feel that they are appropriately recognized for their efforts and valued in the current position.

• 60 percent of employed workers don’t expect to receive a raise.

• Only 20 percent think they will get a promotion.

• 60 percent do not feel that their company is making smart investments for the future workforce.

“It’s apparent that employed workers are wary about their perceived value in their current positions and that’s encouraging them to look for new opportunities,” said Jeffrey Quinn, Vice President of Monster’s Global Insights. “Employers should take note at what matters most to their employees in an effort to secure and retain the best talent.”

The top five reasons why currently employed workers were job searching, as found by the survey, were:

• Higher compensation (54 percent)

• Better match (40 percent)

• Job Stability (29 percent)

• Personal fulfillment (27 percent)

• Company culture (23 percent)
