opened manilla folder Happy National Administrative Professionals’ Day! With more than one-third of businesses planning to celebrate this honor (April 23), Staples has released the findings of its third-annual survey of non-admin and admin workers. And according to the results, 61 percent of administrative professionals are happier than their bosses (18 percent). Also, for the second year in a row, a majority of surveyed employees believe that the admin boosts employee morale and is a better team player than the boss.

Key findings of the online poll include:

  • Admins are multi-talented, reporting that their roles range from accounting to human resources. More than one-third of respondents report using social media on behalf of their boss.
  • Of the admins surveyed, 40 percent reported to having provided childcare for co-workers, 20 percent having watched pets, 20 percent being known as the resident “fashion consultant,” and more than 10 percent admit they have been the office “matchmaker.”
  • Two-thirds of professionals said “no thanks” when asked if they would like Andrea Sachs’ assistant job from the movie Devil Wears Prada. The respondents said “no” even if it meant working for a prestigious company or high-profile person.
  • Respondents said their bosses hold the most power in the office, yet admins are second in command, ahead of the chief financial officer and human resources director. The majority of survey participants report the admin is working harder than ever and supporting more people than the previous year.

“Staples is proud to recognize the great work being done by administrative professionals and the critical role they play in companies across the country,” Mike Edwards, Staples’ executive vice president of merchandising, said. “National Administrative Professionals’ Day is an opportunity to thank these hard-working individuals for helping their businesses make more happen every day.”
