passive candidate mind Ah, passive candidates – mysterious, yet in plain sight. Rare, but all around us. If could be said that the allure of these rare creatures are actually why recruiters exist.

Why go to the zoo and look at a tiger when you can hire a guide to tramp through an Indonesian jungle to find a Javan Rhino? Why be satisfied with talent that plops into your lap? Why look through your resume database when you can call into a competitor for their best employees? It’s perhaps a deep part of human nature as to why we are never satisfied with what is found; we seek the unknown. When you’re talking talent sourcing, we call that unknown passive candidates.

It takes a bit of work to convince passive candidates of greener pastures, but for recruiters, that’s really the fun of it. Understanding the motivation of passive candidates is an important aspect of recruiting them – so we thought we would share this infographic by a new startup called Entelo.

Some key takeaways from their work? Recruiters have to know when to reach out to and recruit these candidates – build this into your recruiting process to develop a deep talent bench. Also, know the signs of passive candidates changing into active candidates through news about the company or changing social network statuses. It all comes down to being smart about understanding what makes people want a new job and knowing how you can make it happen.
