The list comes from data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and is comprised of jobs that earn a salary less than $50,000, when, as the article says, you would expect them to pay more.

 

The list is as follows:

  • Private Detectives and Investigators; mean annual income: $48,610 and bottom 10 percent earn $25,940
  • Surgical Technologists; mean annual income: $42,460 and bottom 10 percent earn $28,860
  • Flight Attendants; mean annual income: $41,720 and bottom 10 percent earn $24,990
  • Desktop Publishers; mean annual income: $39,030 and bottom 10 percent earn $21,320
  • Marriage and Family Therapists; mean annual income: $48,710 and bottom 10 percent earn $25,230
  • Firefighters; mean annual income: $47,720 and bottom 10 percent earn $22,480
  • Radio and Television Announcers; mean annual income: $40,510 and bottom 10 percent earn $17,150
  • Embalmers; mean annual income: $45,060 and bottom 10 percent earn $27,010
  • Reporters and Correspondents; mean annual income: $43,640 and Bottom 10 percent earn $20,000
  • Tax Preparers; mean annual income: $39,410 and bottom 10 percent earn $18,540
  • Legislators; mean annual income: $38,860 and bottom 10 percent earn $16,280
  • Models; mean annual income: $27,830 and bottom 10 percent earn $15,960
  • Chefs and Head Cooks; mean annual income: $46,600 and bottom 10 percent earn $24,770
