Infographic Shows Increase In Women’s Contributions to the Economy

The latest infographic by OnlineSchools.com gauges the impact that women make on the economy and how they continue to join high-paying fields despite compensation inequalities. The research, entitled “Women at Work,” evaluated the influence and growth of female professionals in the job sectors. In 1960, only 1.7 percent of women over 25 held a graduate degree compared to 10 percent in 2009.

Seth Restaino, OnlineSchools.com spokesperson, mentioned, “Women are engaging in higher education as well as holding senior positions in the workplace more than ever before. As women continue to excel, gender inequality in the work place will hopefully become a non-issue.”

The infographic concludes where improvements can occur. Women still struggle with compensation inequalities, as just last year in 2010, women earned 81 percent of men’s median weekly wages, even though presence in high-paying jobs has increased. The infographic also highlighted the fact that women still occupy the majority of the “stereotypical” professional roles like nurses and secretaries.

Restaino added, “Our research uncovered that a number of inequalities still exist for women in the workplace . But there are some really positive signs with more women pursuing advanced education and entering higher-paying fields.”
