Hale was one of more than 700 entrants in the competition. The 2012 WPT Legends of Poker series consisted of 37 events held at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, Calif.

Shortly after his impressive win, Hale hosted a training session for his staff on planning and time management and used his winning experience with several poker references and examples to make numerous points. He realized the skills he uses in his job as an agency recruiter compare to the skills he uses when playing poker. Some include people reading, psychology, patience and understanding risk v. reward analysis.

Along with the $500,000 first prize, Hale earned a seat in the 2013 WPT World Championship.
