Thanks to advances in the tech sector, the process of finding, recruiting, and hiring great candidates in the labor market has been accelerated in recent years. Social media, for example, has made it a lot easier for companies to identify and reach out to candidates.

The adoption of social media in the recruiting process has gone hand and hand with another development: the rise of mobile technology, especially as it relates to the job search. Research suggests  that roughly half of today’s job seekers use their mobile devices for job-search purposes. Contemporary candidates use smartphones to search for open jobs and receive alerts, track their application statuses, connect with recruitment teams, and even fill out applications.

Because mobile technology is so important to candidates, it should be important to recruiters, too. Companies would be wise to invest in mobile recruiting strategies and tools if they want to stay competitive in 2016.

If you haven’t yet developed a mobile recruiting strategy, it’s time to get started. Here are a few of the most powerful mobile recruiting tools out there today:

1. Google Power Search

Why not start with the basics? Google can be an excellent way to source candidates – if you know how to use it well. Google offers a course on “power searching”  that all recruiters should think about signing up for. It’s a simple way to take your Web search skills to brand new heights.

2. ScheduleOnce

Once you’ve located a potential candidate, you can use ScheduleOnce  (or a similar scheduling app – there are a lot out there!) to schedule a meeting with them. You send an invitation, the candidate replies, and ScheduleOnce automatically updates both of your calendars. The system automatically syncs with most calendar clients.

3. HireVue

The HireVue app  lets you create interview questionnaires on the phone and send them to your candidates. The candidates then read the questions and answer them. You can ask candidates to answer multiple choice questions, write essays, or record video answers – HireVue supports all three types of questions.

PhoneWhat’s nice about this app is it makes it very easy to share candidates’ videos and answers with other members of the recruiting team. Essentially, it brings interviewing into the modern age.

4. Jobscience

This powerful app gives you applicant tracking capabilities right on your mobile phone. Recruiters can invite candidates to submit their resumes digitally, and Jobscience can instantly parse them. This makes it much easier for recruiters to search through their resume databases and find the candidates they are looking for. Resumes can also be shared via email, SMS, and the like. Jobscience is, overall, a great tool for when you’re meeting candidates on the go, like at a job fair or networking event.

5. Bullhorn

Like Jobscience, Bullhorn  is an ATS with serious mobile phone capabilities. The software is available on multiple platforms, including iPhones, Android, Windows, and Blackberry. It has solid CRM features that differentiate it from more consumer-oriented products, too.

Not quite ready to move your recruiting strategy into the world of mobile recruiting apps? Then you should at least optimize your current Web-based recruiting systems for mobile platforms. Make sure candidates can access (and successfully navigate!) your careers page via their smartphones and tablets. Bonus points if candidates can actually apply from those devices, too!

Every company’s recruiting needs are different, which is why it is up to you to figure out what mobile recruiting strategies and tools will work best for your needs. That being said, you cannot deny that all employers need to get into the world of mobile recruiting. No more excuses: Either go mobile in 2016, or you’ll start losing out on all the best candidates.
