New Study Reveals that Majority of Workers Believe They would be More Productive Working from Home

Online-meetings software provider TeamViewer has released the results of its survey of 2,500 adults and found that 62 percent of Americans believe that more workers want telecommuting as an alternative means to standard office employment. Additionally, 83 percent of those surveyed believe that telecommuting is being used more often. The survey also found that 53 percent of Americans believe that telecommuting is increasing due to the rising prevalence of tablets and smartphones.

The study indicated that 49 percent of Americans believe that telecommuting is becoming more accessible the general workforce and easier to use. An additional 30 percent reported that small businesses are also experiencing an increase in telecommuting. When polled on how each respondent would behave as a telecommuter, 54 percent reported that they would be somewhat more productive or better. About one-third of individuals indicated that they would be more or much more productive working from home.

More surprising is the list of activities Americans would forego in order to telecommute. The top items workers would be willing to sacrifice include social media (34 percent), texting (30 percent), chocolate (29 percent), smartphones (25 percent), shopping (20 percent), a raise (17 percent), and a 50 percent decrease in vacation days (15 percent). Other, more extreme, sacrifices respondents would make include showers (12 percent) and even spouses (5 percent).

Commenting on the results of the study, General Manager at TeamViewer Holger Felgner stated, “While the results of this survey may seem amusing, these findings show that telecommuting will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. TeamViewer gives people the freedom to work from anywhere at any time and on any device.”
