The role of an anesthesiologist assistant is to precalibrate and test anesthesia equipment, verify the avilability of gases, medications and other supplies, and to collect patient medical histories prior to the administration of anesthesia. These professionals may also control anesthesia levels during surgical and non-surgical procedures, provide airway management, and use knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, basic cardiac life support, advanced life support, pediatric advanced life support, and/or technology incoporated in this procedures during emergency situations. They are not physicians, but are required to complete specialized vocational training programs for these positions.
