Sound engineering technicians operate machinery which records and plays back sound in public areas and sound booths. These professionals consult with performers and clients to determine needs, and tailor sound systems to match the requirements of events. They report equipment failures, ensure repairs are made, and take down equipment following the completion of events. Sound engineering tehnicians may also work in the digital post-processing of recordings to seperate instruments, voices and other sounds, and may work with pre-recorded sound bytes. They may also create duplicates of recordings if requested by clients. They are also responisble for keeping detailed logs of all recordings. A high school diploma or the equivalent and significant working knowledge of sound systems is required for this position.
