This is a field that requires extensive education. In addition to college, years of medical school and advanced training are required. In order to properly examine a patient, you'll need to know a great deal about a wide range of subjects, such as anatomy, microbiology, and physiology.
Doctors analyze and interpret diagnostic images such as X-rays, as well as other medical data. They prescribe medications, give injections and sometimes perform surgery. This is especially true of obstetricians who may need to perform a surgical procedure called "caesarian" if natural childbirth is inadvisable.
In important part of each visit is talking with the patient. For example, you may have to explain a complex medical condition, or give clear instructions on taking medication. You should be a good listener. Often the doctor is called upon to be part psychologist and part detective. This is a profession where people put there trust, and sometimes their lives, in your hands.
Physicians who provide medical care related to pregnancy or childbirth and those who diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases of women, particularly those affecting the reproductive system. May also provide general medical care to women.

Plan, implement, or administer health programs in hospitals, businesses, or communities for prevention and treatment of injuries or illnesses.
