Pest controllers and their assistants eliminate rats, mice, termites, wasps, and other pests from places where they do not belong. Restaurants, where food is prepared, apartment buildings and homes, and any place else where people can be bitten, stung, or made sick by pests and the diseases they carry - these are all part of a pest controller's territory.

Since many pest control jobs involve working with potentially dangerous poisons and chemicals, it is important to be alert at all times and to follow proper safety procedures. A knoack for problem solving is also helpful because once you are trained, it will be you who must decide on the best way to handle each unique pest problem.

Since pests are a never-ending battle, opportunities will always exist for people who know how to control pests with ecologically sound techniques.

Study preliminary reports or diagrams of infested area and determine treatment type required to eliminate and prevent recurrence of infestation.

Direct or assist other workers in treatment or extermination processes to eliminate or control rodents, insects, or weeds.

Drive truck equipped with power spraying equipment.

Inspect premises to identify infestation source and extent of damage to property, wall, or roof porosity and access to infested locations.

Spray or dust chemical solutions, powders, or gases into rooms, onto clothing, furnishings, or wood, or over marshlands, ditches, or catch basins.

Clean work site after completion of job.

Recommend treatment and prevention methods for pest problems to clients.

Record work activities performed.
